Handheld Scanners Can Even Get You

LED grow lights are the paranoid grower’s best friend in this new century.   There are so many ways a person could get busted when trying to grow tomatoes without a license, but one that you shouldn’t be worrying about is heat signatures.  One by one, you can eliminate every possible risk that you may have setting up a grow op with some ingenuity, and allow yourself to sleep easy at night while your baby’s grow and grow.  To start, you can get rid of one of the most feared of all these possible downfalls by purchasing a LED grow light system and grow using nice cool led grow lighting to get the job done.

If your asking yourself why led grow lights run so cool and leave behind no infrared light signature for spy’s to see, you must understand how the led’s in a led grow light work first off.  LED’s themselves operate by passing electricity through a diode, and thereby transferring energy into light when jumping the diode gap.  This light that is produced requires very little actual heat, and requires no medium other than air for the electrons to jump through.  Unlike HID lighting systems, led’s do not need to heat up a metal to such a degree that it is either near a melting point or even a gas.  LED’s turn electrical energy into light energy very efficiently because of this fact, and as a result very little heat is produced.

The amount of heat that is produced by led’s in a led grow light panel is so negligible that you do not even need to take into consideration this amount of heat when calculating the heat differential that is created.  We do however know that led grow lights produce heat, and so much so that multiple cooling fans are needed on the units themselves to keep the led electrical panel cool and prevent it from burning up.  The amount of heat that is produced by one individual led itself is negligible, however when you add up all of the heat of all of the led’s in a 100 led grow light panel, you have a sum of heat that matters.

The cooling fans on a high quality led grow light panel are setup to constantly keep the heat that is produced by the led’s themselves up off the equipment and out of the casing the led grow light electronics are housed in.  This heat is rejected out of the led grow light case and into the general grow area, however if you do keep your grow space well ventilated itself, you can keep this heat from affecting the ambient air temperature of the grow space itself.

The main reason for these led grow light manufacturers to keep these led’s so cool in the first place is to keep them from burning up or degrading.  The LED itself is not very tolerant to heat, and when not properly cooled, will have a short lifespan.  Because of this, the led grow light engineer makes sure to incorporate a led case design that allows for proper airflow and ventilation so the cooling fans that are contained within can do their job.

A HID grow light system, even though air cooled, will still be very hot on the bulb itself, and most of the time it’s casing.  You may not burn yourself by touching its lighting hood, but if you were to touch the bulb with

your bare hand, you would surly burn yourself good.  Because of this fact, the hid lighting system will never be immune completely from infrared scanners and heat sensing technology.

If you were to look at a led grow light with a pair of infrared goggles, you wouldn’t see much, and from the street looking into a home, nothing at all.  Thermal goggles would yield certainly more of a substantial signature than the infrared signature, but again, from within a home, you would not be able to distinguish the difference between a led grow light and a typical incandescent light fixture.

HID Light systems on the other hand can yield very specific infrared light signatures if the person looking at a structure was trained to look for this.  A thermal scan of a home with a bank of hid lights would be a dead giveaway for even the amateur, so individuals who are afraid of spy’s should take extra precautionary measures when setting up a larger grow using HID bulbs.

The more lighting fixtures you have operating in a grow space, the more obvious it will be to the spy to determine what they see is something unnatural or not right about the home.  If you are intending on growing with more than 2K watts of HID lighting in your home, and want to make sure your safe from spies, then you should be building a false wall around your grow room that is pumped with cool air to throw off of jealous bystanders.  This can very easily be done with some extra drywall and lumber, tutorials are online for the ambitious…

More practical for you as a grower to stay safe though is to purchase some high quality led grow lights from a company like led-grow-lights-usa.  The only way to get a quality led grow light is to purchase one from a company that makes them with proper testing behind them.  You can have all the led’s in the world, but if the led quality is poor, you will never get the results you want.  You might think the risk is worth the reward when using HID lights, but that is only a correct assumption when using the low quality Chinese led grow lights.  Take it upon yourself to do your own research to back up my claims and keep yourself safe when growing.
